About sheltered housing

We have seven sheltered housing schemes across the district. These schemes are designed to suit older people who do not need residential care, but are looking to move out of their current home.

Sheltered housing

Residents have the independence of living within their own flat or bedsit within the security the wider scheme. They are able to join in the many social activities held within the communal lounge.

All our sheltered schemes have;

  • A scheme manager
  • A call system to contact the scheme manager in an emergency
  • A communal lounge for the use of all residents.
  • Laundry room.

The scheme manager is there to encourage and support residents to be independent within their own homes.

If you are a new resident, they will help you to settle into your home as quickly as possible and give you all the information you need to manage your tenancy.

They can also help you contact appropriate organisations such as Social Services, Meals on Wheels, District Nurses etc who can help with these personal care needs.

The mobile support service provides emergency 24-hour cover via the call system to the control centre.
