Daventry & District Housing has responded to a plea for help from pupils at William Parker School in transforming a disused classroom into a common room for year 11 students.
The not-for-profit housing association was sent a letter from head girl, Laura Barton, who was hoping the school could benefit from the association’s community environmental improvement budget.
Daventry & District Housing, which owns and manages around 3,100 homes in the area, stepped in to provide furniture, labour and materials to help convert the classroom into a place year 11 students could call their own.
Ciara Gill, community development manager at Daventry & District Housing, said: “We were glad to be able to help the pupils at William Parker School and it was refreshing to get this request from a young person looking to improve her environment after she read about the fund in one of our newsletters.
“The pupils chose furniture such as chairs and a coffee table and our staff were pleased to go along and help paint the new common room alongside the pupils.
“We always encourage young people to get involved in improving their surroundings and this particular project will benefit young people for years to come.”
Laura Barton, head girl at William Parker School, said: “We are delighted with the new common room and are really impressed as it has been such a dramatic change.
“The common room is now neat and tidy and it is good to know it will be passed on to future year 11 pupils.
“We are grateful to Daventry & District Housing for its help and support with this project.”
