Play time for local villages

A scheme by Daventry & District Housing launched to help improve local communities is in full swing with the completion of three new projects.

Playgrounds at Byfield, Sibbertoft and Welford have all benefited from funding from the housing association’s Environmental Improvement Budget.

A new nest swing at Byfield means that parents and children can play together at the village playground. The swing was handed over to the parish council this week.

Meanwhile a new shelter at Sibbertoft playground will give parents and youngsters somewhere to relax away from the elements, and new fencing around the playground at Welford means a safer and more attractive outlook.

The projects have been completed following feedback from tenants who said that improving playgrounds should be a local priority.

Ciara Gill, community development manager at Daventry & District Housing, said: “We are pleased to be able to support the parish councils and residents in the three villages by completing these projects.

“Our environmental improvement budget has been established to support community initiatives that benefit residents by increasing facilities or improving safety.

“Playgrounds and other local amenities help to create a sense of community and we hope that residents will enjoy the facilities for many years to come. Residents had identified these projects as a priority and we are delighted to be able to act on their feedback.”

A group of neighbours, parish council or other community group can apply for funding from Daventry & District Housing’s environmental improvement budget. If you have a project that would help to improve the environment or community safety, contact the team on 01327 707500.
