Nursing team’s community cash boost

A voluntary nursing team providing care and support to residents in and around Brixworth has received a cash boost.

Daventry & District Housing has awarded £2,500 to Brixworth Christian Fellowship (BCF) Care.

Elaine Musgrove and Margaret Lawes’ work with BCF is part of the Parish Nursing scheme, to provide additional support to people with a range of health needs.

Their work includes facilitating a cancer support group, acting as advocates for older people and helping to transport them to medical appointments, as well as working alongside those struggling with addiction.

As a Christian-based ministry, the team also helps people to explore faith issues and how this can help their physical wellbeing.

The money awarded to BCF Care is part of a community environmental budget totalling £100,000 a year, which Daventry & District Housing has launched to support local initiatives which benefit communities.

BCF Care is the first organisation to be awarded money from the fund, which is overseen by a panel made of Daventry & District Housing tenants.

Elaine Musgrove said: “We do not receive any funding so this grant will help to support our work in the local community. It will help us to update equipment such as blood pressure monitors as well as go towards transport and training costs.

“We are extremely grateful to Daventry & District Housing for the award.”

The community environmental budget supports a range of initiatives - from community events and activities to physical improvements such as new fencing or play areas.

Other awards made to date include a grant to Sure Start Parents’ Group to help stage a free family fun day and money to provide a new playground surface in Crick.

Hayley Davies, executive director of Daventry & District Housing, said: “Each of these initiatives will make an excellent contribution to the local community and we are delighted to be able to support them.”
