National Housing Federation Prepay Meter Campaign Success

John Pierce, Campaigns Officer, National Housing Federation today announced the following victory

Today British Gas has announced that it will no longer charge a premium to its gas prepay meter users. This move will help almost a million customers who pay upfront for their energy.

When the NHF started started its campaigne in 2007, only Scottish Power had equalised. Now, Npower, E.ON, Scottish and Southern and EDF Energy subsequently removed their premiums. Our campaign has now saved customers at least £150 million

This is a phenomenal success and it would have not been possible without the help of federation members.

Although we now have full equalisation across all of the big six energy suppliers, the Federation will lobby MPs to make the change permanent in the Energy Bill, currently progressing through Parliament
