Teens take a walk on the creative side

Budding artists in Daventry are taking to the streets, working with creative professionals in a youth-led project to brighten the town centre’s subways with specially commissioned public murals.

Young people aged 14 to 19 will have the opportunity to work with professional artists to design and paint six underground walkways, making subways safer and more welcoming to local residents. They will also be photographing the work for a book and an exhibtion that will tour around the region.

The project is being led by a community partnership between Daventry & District Housing (DDH), Daventry District Council, Northamptonshire Libraries’ Information Service, Northamptonshire Voluntary Youth Action (NVYA), Phoenix Youth Centre and artists from Threshold Studios.

The finished murals will be protected with a special coating and caught on camera, with digital images on show in a regional touring exhibition led by participants.
